Whether you are looking for one hour literacy sessions, a poetry day for a year group, a journalism workshop or an imaginative week of creative writing activities for a whole school, I can help.

I aim to inspire and to channel children’s inspiration for the written and spoken word, helping pupils produce a poem, school magazine, fund-raising book or performance they can show their families, peers or community with pride.

All kinds of projects are possible, for example:

  • a fundraising book to sell to family and friends
  • a class or school magazine
  • a performance poetry slam for parents
  • individual, group or class poems and displays
  • poet, writer or editor in residence
  • poems, features or writing about your school

My work focuses on writing, performance or a combination of both and encourages children to look at their literacy skills afresh through practical work tailored to their age, abilities and interests.

I am happy to mix and match workshops, teaching a range of journalism, poetry and performance skills in a single day or week, and I can work with every year group from reception upwards.

Workshops

Workshops are designed to meet the needs and interests of the children, teachers, school and curriculum, within your budgetary constraints. There are lots of options from a one hour session to a long term project.

Workshops can be:
  • Tailored to skills or curriculum of specific year groups.
  • Delivered independently or in partnership with teachers.
  • Focused on listening to, writing or performing poetry.
  • Single sessions or a series of workshops working towards performance or publication.
  • Within school time or an after school activity.
  • Part of a school play, talent show or poetry day.
  • Spread across multiple year groups in one day.
  • Used to help a class, year or whole school run their own poetry slam.
  • Used to help a class, year or whole school develop a book of poems to sell as a fundraiser.
  • Integrated with wider drama, art, literacy, ICT or cross curriculum projects.

I aim to work with you to accommodate your ideas, creative inspiration, projects and curriculum requirements.
